“I love living in the heart of the island; we moved to the Winthrop House for its Worth Avenue walkability. The beach, elegant restaurants, and shopping are right at our doorstep.”
Built in 1970, there are eight floors and 122 units. The lobby walls are covered in beautiful Old Florida Pecky Cypress.
Pecky Cypress is a very special wood which was once abundant in South Florida. Many trees were over 1,000 years old when they were culled and used as adornment in many fine buildings
Now Pecky Cypress is a protected species. A Pecky Cypress tree has very distinctive long tubular holes in the wood caused by fungi. The tubular hollows have been one of their saving graces through the years. Cypress trees grow in shallow waters and have external root systems. Because they are riddled with holes, the tree is lighter and less likely to fall over and perish. The Winthrop House is a beautiful showcase for this beloved local tree.
The Winthrop House’s recently renovated pool deck is tranquil. Brightly colored flowers and pops of color speckle the landscape. The resident rooftop terrace offers stunning Ocean views of the Estate Section and the Ocean.
